With the winter almost over, I'm sure cabin fever has taken over in your household. If you're looking to get out of the house, but don't want to commit to long, expensive vacations, look no further than your locale for events and activities!
CreditSoup dives into how to curb that cabin fever for a few more weeks. Here are some "outside of the box" boredom busters to keep you - and even the kids - entertained until spring has sprung.
10 Things To Curb Cabin Fever
-
1. Car Shows
Research your local event centers and town happenings. Some local car clubs may take advantage of the cold season and have their annual event indoors. Get the kids (or husband) out of the house a bit and check out those old vintage hot rods.
-
2. Craft Fairs
Maybe you enjoy crafting, or maybe you just like to buy crafty things. Either way, checking out a local craft fair is a great way to get out of the house for the day. Use it as inspiration or find some new pieces to freshen up your home decor.
-
3. Painting Classes
Gather up your friends and check out a local painting shop. Many have "Wine & Canvas" nights, where you bring your friends, enjoy a cocktail, and paint 'til your little heart's content.
-
4. Take in a Rodeo
The midwest has several western events throughout the year, such as rodeos. During the colder months, they are typically held indoors at your local expo building, fairground event hall, or even community center. Bring the family, or even make it a date night and enjoy the show!
-
5. Attend a Concert
Scope out smaller venues in your area for that next concert. Performers occasionally enjoy smaller venues, such as casinos, as a change of pace and an added personal touch with their fans.
-
6. Beer or Wine Tasting
Is there a large selection of craft brewers or wineries in your area? Look into local beer or wine tasting events, held at local breweries or wine bars. Part of the events may even include tours of their facilities. Make it educational while having fun.
-
7. Children's Museums
I'm sure your kids are going batty by now, being cooped up inside during the cold months. Seek out local kids attractions such as Children's Museums. Many of them offer hands on games and educational demonstrations.
-
8. Visit a Local Zoo or Aquarium
Your local zoo may just be opening for the season, as some animals are coming out of hibernation. They may also have indoor activities such as aquariums or even a butterfly or insect exhibit. Round up the kiddos and let them explore.
-
9. Arcade
Take advantage of your local arcade or pizza place. Places such as Dave N' Busters or Pizza Ranch have an arcade for the kids to scatter off to, while the adults can visit.
-
10. Home Shows
Maybe you and the spouse need some time away from the kids. Leave them at grandma's and go check out the local home show! Get some ideas to update your home.
Cash In On Boredom
With a little ingenuity and creativeness, there's a plethora of boredom buster activities out there that won't break the bank. And if you time it right, utilizing your credit cards at the right time, could pay off too. Some cards offer rewards at certain times of the year, so you'll actually pay yourself back on those cabin fever activities.
