It's Thursday at CreditSoup, and you know what that means - it's Thrifty Thursday where we talk about thrifty tips on saving money! This week we're touching on Dollar Stores. I know... it's no Target but if you're in a bind, desperately awaiting payday, or sticking to a budget, the local dollar store is going to be your best friend before long.
Now, I'm not saying to buy EVERYTHING at the dollar store, but buying certain things at a cheaper cost will definitely be a relief to your pocketbook. Here are a few items to consider purchasing at your local dollar store.
No. 1 Cleaning Supplies
Name brand cleaning supplies are almost always available at the dollar store. And, if you're lucky, they may even have coupons making them cheaper yet. Shy away from the generic, though, as they may not be as effective as the name brand.
No. 2 Paper Goods
If your family is constantly on the go, you may end up spending oodles on paper goods like paper or styrofoam plates, bowls, and plastic silverware. And, you can't forget about paper towels & toilet paper. Save a few bucks and make a quick trip to the dollar store to stock up on such supplies.
No. 3 Candy & Snacks
Having kids of any age is expensive when stocking up on snacks. Load up on those after-school treats & snacks from the dollar store. If you're like me, and have a "snack drawer" at work, this is a great place to stock up on those items too.
No. 4 Home & Office Decor
I don't know about you, but have you looked at the price of decor items lately? They're not exempt from inflation. Decorating and sprucing up your home or office space doesn't have to cost a fortune. The local Dollar General, for example, has tons of cute - affordable - options at a fraction of the price of purchasing at big box stores.
No. 5 Wrapping Paper & Party Supplies
Don't go broke wrapping gifts and preparing for the holidays or the upcoming birthday party. Items such as cards, gift bags, table cloths and party favors are up to 75% cheaper at the dollar store. In fact, I bought several party supplies and decor at Dollar General for my wedding; saved a TON.
Wrapping it Up
With the cost of everything in the economy today, finding ways to save money is a thought that crosses people's minds daily. This Thrifty Thursday don't hesitate to shop the local dollar store. Keep following CreditSoup.com for more thrifty tips!
