What Mom's Really Want for Mother's Day

As a mother myself, I've learned that gift giving isn't always the way to go. As kids get older, you may not see them as often, so the mere presence of your children on such holiday is the best gift you could get.

However, if you are a new mom, or mom of a recent newborn or small children, this could ring a bit different. There are moments when you have to take a break & say "mommy just needs some time to herself." If that's the case, I have included a full guide of what mom's really want for Mother's Day.

1. Please just take the kids.

Dads - here's your cue. You know all too well that mom typically gets up with the children in the middle of the night. She then gets up & pulls a full 8hr day at work. She comes home from work and has to cook & feed the household, make sure the kids are bathed, and then tucked into bed. Not to mention, do a few loads of laundry, tidy up the house & do the dishes - all before bedtime. Thus, the daily routine.

Sometimes, it's nice to be able to just sleep in, or come home and relax and watch a show without tending to screaming, crying, fighting, hungry kids. Take the kids for the night. Let her sleep in. Get up with the baby. Get the kids to church or wherever they need to be. Cook the meals. Bathe the children. Put them to bed. This, gentlemen, is essentially what a woman's dreams are made of.

2. Deep clean the bathroom.

It's the little things she does on the daily, you know... that often times are not recognized or even noticed. Do them for her. Wipe down the sink & counter. Clean the toilet. Mop the floor. Wash the rugs. Restock the toiletries. Scrub the tub. Then go ahead & pour her a nice hot bubble bath & a glass of wine. Finish it off with some nice relaxing candles. And once she's in, lock the door on your way out.

3. Make her dinner, or breakfast in bed.

These are some fun activities even the kids can help with. Handmade cards are cute too, but it’s the thoughtfulness that goes into making the meal & giving mom the day off. If cooking isn't up your alley, take her out for a nice dinner. After all, you might be able to acquire some good rewards points at the restaurant on some of those credit cards you might have!

4. Pamper her.

She always puts the kids first. Her own wants, needs, and self care have been tossed to the wayside for some time now. She’s a hot mess express.

Drop the kids at grandmas. Take her out to get her hair & nails done, or even get a massage for that matter. Buy her that new outfit that she hasn’t bothered to get since she’s always buying things for everyone else. For one day out of the year, give her a break and let her feel human again.

At the end of the day...

Mother's Day doesn't always have to involve big purchases or random tossed together gifts. Sometimes it's the mere thought of "what can I do for the mother of my kids?" and doing some of those things for her. Hopefully these tips will help. And if the kids still want to get her something, flowers, a favorite candy or handmade cards are always a good go-to. Remember your mama this Mother's Day.
