Money's tight. I get it. However, it's birthday & wedding season. Why not make gifts instead of buying them? This week's Frugal Friday touches on gift giving and how to save money doing so.
Not Very Crafty?
That's OK. You don't have to be. Take a look around your home. Sift through your kids items, the closet or pantry. Gift baskets are always a welcomed gift!
1. Kids Birthday
If you have some unused kids toys, still in the box, unused coloring books, or even left over party favors from birthdays of the past, use them to put together a cute gift basket! Don't have a basket? A decorative gift box or shoe box will do. You can either wrap them in colorful paper, or paint it. Or, if you have old wicker easter baskets, cut the handle off to repurpose an existing basket. Add some tissue paper and you've got a nice looking gift that cost you absolutely nothing.
2. House Warming Gift
Unused candles, unopened scented wall plugs, dishes, canned goods, box mixes, unused linens. All these things could be put together and nicely arranged in a gift basket.
3. Wedding Season
Random bottle of wine (or a few can's of their favorite beverages), some plastic or unused drinkware, candles and some old picture frames make a very nice little "honeymoon" basket - at no cost.
Bake Something
If you like to bake, here's a great idea. Make some cookies, a pie, or a favorite bar. Arrange them on a nice tray & wrap them in some colorful tissue paper or ribbon.
Sew Something
So, you like to sew, crochet or knit? There you go! A new blanket, table runner, or kitchen rug may be the ticket. The possibilities are endless! Pry around for some insight on anything in particular they may need for their new home, or new bundle of joy.
Manly Gifts
If you aren't the "crafting" or "baker" type, yet you like to tinker, anything you can find to weld together could make an awesome gift. Repurposed yard art is very popular today. Maybe that new grandchild needs a toybox, or small table for the playroom. Use some old wood you have lying around and make them something.
