Are you a bookworm? Do you like to have that tangible, physical book in your hand, rather than reading from a digital device? That's a great vintage era hobby to have. However, books themselves take up lots of shelf space, and can become an expensive addiction over the years. This week's Thrifty Thursday goes "old school." Why buy books, or even spend the money downloading them digitally, when you could save money by visiting your local library!
According to a report from McZell.com, the cost of a book ranges from $13.95 to $17.95. They also estimate an average price of a book is $16.96. If a person reads 12 books in a year, that adds up to $203.52/year. If you're an avid reader, and read twice that much - or more, you're now spending well over $400/year on books. To add, that's less living space you now have because you've acquired more "stuff". And, you now have more debt to pay by racking up potential credit card debt to fund that hobby.
Spending a little time at your library not only saves money, but it also supports your local community. And, if your neighborhood is fortunate to have "little libraries", it's a great opportunity to be thrifty and get rid of some of your clutter. Go ahead... share with your fellow neighbors, and funnel all those savings into a savings account or pay off a debt!
