Remove Shopping Apps

Remove Shopping Apps

You know those apps on your phone that you're urged to download in the department stores at the checkout to "save" you money? We suggest uninstalling them for a while, while you're digging yourself out of debt. Once you have the app, it's tempting to continually look for new specials for the things you think you need to buy. Thrifty Thursday urges you to remove shopping apps from your phone.

Psychological Theory in Apps

We know... removing your Amazon or Target app is a tough one. In your mindset, you think "I might need to order something" or "what if they're having a special one-day sale?" There is a strategy behind those marketing ploys. First they get your email at the checkout lane. Then, they urge you to download their store app "to get more deals." The next thing you know, you're recieveing daily emails urging you to "click here for daily deals" via their app.

Apps offer an advantage, as they can increase their repeat business opportunities and improve referral rates. They can also inform the consumer about new product and services, in turn creating new sales. However, if not used wisely, could end up costing you in the long run.

Taking Self Control

The best thing you can do to save money right now, and not rack up an immense amount of debt is to remove those apps; the ones you are an absolute sucker for and cave at the slightest inkling of the word "Sale" or "Deal," especially if you have a credit card linked to them. Dig yourself out of debt. Don't shop or charge anything on those cards for a few months. A previous article even suggested unsubscribing from the store emails.

Debt Free Feels Great!

Living debt free - of credit cards or store charge cards at least - is a wonderful feeling. No more sleepless nights wondering if you remembered to pay this bill or that bill. No more worrying about how you're going to pay this card or that card off. Those extra couple hundred dollars you'd typically spend paying credit card debt is now sitting snuggly in your bank account, or tucked away in a savings account!
