Buy Used

This week's Wise Spend Wednesday tip from Credit Soup is to Buy Used. Especially if it's something for your child. Chances are, they are not going to be in that size very long, or their interest in a particular item will be short lived. Save your money for something more worthwhile!

Thrift Stores like Goodwill, Saver's, or The Salvation Army are great options if you prefer to shop the "in-store" feel. Even your local communities may have small thrift stores available to check out. While other online resources such as ThredUp, Poshmark, or even Facebook Marketplace offer great online opportunities as well.

Buying used isn't always a bad idea. Sometimes, you luck out and find "used" items on the rack that are still NWT! (New With Tags). That tag that may have been originally priced at $50 brand new, is now being sold for $5 or $10 bucks. Talk about a major score for you, and your pocketbook!

While not everything is a good idea to buy used, if you have young kids, it's probably a good idea. Why spend hundreds of dollars on name brand clothes, shoes, and toys when they will grow out of it almost as soon as you purchase it? Save money now. Put that extra money you may have spent on high dollar items in a savings account for when they get older. Or, use that money and take them on a fun vacation or trip!
